CAP Community College Inauguration An
important MILESTONE in CAP Foundation’s journey of linking learning and
livelihood for the most disadvantaged youth is the setting up of the
Community College recognised by the Indira Gandhi National Open
University (IGNOU). The
Government of India has taken up an ambitious program of starting 500
Community Colleges through out the country in the Eleventh Five Year
Plan, and for this purpose designated IGNOU as the nodal agency. The
Community Colleges are an alternative system of education and skill
development for the poor and disadvantaged youth. The vision of the
Community College is to be of the Community, for the Community and by
the Community for producing responsible citizens. The Community
Colleges promotes job oriented, work related, employability skills
training along with life skills. It is expected that through the
community college, many more young people from economically and
educationally disadvantaged communities would be able to access and
benefit from the program. Among
the many hundreds of organizations that applied to IGNOU for allotment
of setting up Community Colleges post July 2009, CAP Foundation has
been granted permission to set up a community college. The
CAP Community College through its 10 regional centres plans to train
around 35000 youth from its 95 employability training centres across 10
states in India. CAP Community College will offer post-secondary
programs leading to Associate Degrees in Arts, Science and Commerce, in
addition to short –term diploma and certificate programs in various
courses in the new economy sectors. "CAP Community College” was inaugurated on July 31, 2009 by Dr. Latha Pillai, Pro Vice Chancellor of IGNOU, New Delhi. Some of the photographs of the occasion are shown here ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
